Venezuelan President Maduro announced on the evening of the 27th that the Venezuelan government has restored power supply to 80% of the country and called on the Venezuelan people to hold large-scale demonstrations in response to the "power war" initiated by the opposition ".
Maduro said in a televised speech that night that 80% of the country's regions have restored power supply, and only a few western states have not re-connected to the national grid. At present, the technical team of the government and the State Power Company are making every effort to repair the core part of the power system. "In the next few hours, our power system will be more stable."
Maduro also announced that in order to ensure the power repair work, the whole country will continue to stop work on the 28th. The Government is committed to maintaining security and stability and a domestic water supply in major cities.
In his speech, Maduro called on the Venezuelan people to hold a large-scale demonstration on the 30th in response to the "power war" initiated by the opposition and defend the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The march will take place in "more than 1000 locations" across the country. He said that the nationwide power outage that began on the 25th was caused by the "terrorist attacks" of the opposition.
On the afternoon of the 25th, power outages occurred in many areas of Venezuela. The government successfully restored power supply in some areas within a few hours after the power outage. The Venezuelan government accused the opposition of setting fire to the Guri hydropower station in an attempt to completely destroy the power generation and transmission system. As the power has not been fully restored, the Venezuelan government has decided to suspend work nationwide on the 26th and 27th.
Venezuela also experienced a nationwide blackout lasting several days on the 7th of this month. The Venezuelan government said that the cause of the power outage was the Guli Hydropower Station was deliberately sabotaged by the opposition.
